Founding Venture Partner – International Engagement & Institutional Solutions

Washington, DC Area | Flexible/Fractional

The Opportunity

Bonvalet Group, a Washington-area technology and international affairs advisory firm, is seeking an entrepreneurial-minded professional to help commercialize and expand an established institutional advisory capability focused on international engagement, organizational effectiveness, and strategic program development.

We are looking for a Founding Venture Partner who brings commercial judgment, institutional relationships, and an interest in building a scalable business around proven intellectual property and consulting methodologies.

Unlike a conventional startup opportunity, this initiative builds on years of applied experience, an established consulting process, and capabilities ready for immediate client engagement.

The selected partner will work directly with Bonvalet’s founder to develop new institutional relationships, originate engagements, strengthen market positioning, and help transform an established advisory capability into a growing commercial enterprise.

For the right individual, this opportunity offers a potential pathway to broader operating leadership as the business develops.

What You’ll Do

The Venture Partner will initially concentrate on commercial development, institutional engagement, and market expansion, with responsibilities spanning four areas.

Business Development & Client Acquisition

  • Identify and engage prospective clients across government agencies, diplomatic missions, international organizations, universities, and other institutions with significant international responsibilities.
  • Develop relationships with senior executives, program directors, institutional leaders, and other decision-makers.
  • Lead introductory conversations, coordinate presentations, and support the development of commercial proposals.
  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline of institutional opportunities.
  • Help convert institutional needs into paid assessments, advisory engagements, and longer-term program relationships.

Market Development & Commercial Strategy

  • Help refine the initiative’s market positioning, value proposition, commercial packaging, and pricing.
  • Identify unmet institutional needs involving international engagement, organizational performance, and strategic program management.
  • Evaluate promising market segments and recommend priorities for commercial expansion.
  • Translate prospective-client feedback into actionable recommendations for new offerings and market applications.

Strategic Partnerships & Institutional Relationships

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with institutions, professional associations, and potential strategic collaborators.
  • Develop opportunities for institutional partnerships, joint initiatives, and expanded market access.
  • Participate in relevant professional networks and executive-level discussions.
  • Help establish relationships that support repeat engagements, long-term institutional contracts, and sustainable business growth.

Venture Development & Growth

  • Collaborate with Bonvalet leadership to establish commercial priorities and growth objectives.
  • Help develop repeatable customer-acquisition, proposal-development, and client-management processes.
  • Contribute to the expansion of institutional advisory and implementation services.
  • Identify opportunities for technology-enabled solutions that extend the reach and impact of the initiative.
  • As appropriate, participate in selected client engagements and support the development of additional delivery capacity.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re particularly interested in accomplished professionals with significant experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • International engagement and institutional strategy
  • Government consulting and public-sector business development
  • Diplomacy, foreign affairs, or international cooperation
  • Organizational development and institutional performance improvement
  • International programs and strategic partnership development
  • University internationalization and global engagement
  • Management consulting and institutional advisory services
  • Commercialization of professional services or technology-enabled solutions

The strongest candidates will combine institutional credibility, commercial initiative, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

They should be comfortable engaging senior institutional leaders, identifying opportunities to improve organizational performance, and translating complex institutional challenges into commercially viable engagements.

An established network of institutional relationships is especially valuable, as is experience originating advisory engagements, developing proposals, and securing organizational contracts.

What Success Looks Like

During the initial phase, success will involve establishing a qualified pipeline of institutional prospects, validating commercial positioning, developing productive relationships with prospective clients, and securing initial paid assessment or advisory engagements.

The venture already possesses substantive intellectual capital and an established delivery methodology. The immediate priority is generating commercial traction rather than undertaking extensive new product development.

As the business grows, the Venture Partner may have the opportunity to assume broader responsibility for commercial operations, institutional partnerships, business planning, client relationships, and selected delivery activities.

The longer-term objective is to establish a sustainable, scalable institutional solutions business supported by repeatable advisory offerings and technology-enabled capabilities.

Partnership & Compensation

This is a flexible, fractional independent venture-partner opportunity, structured around participation in commercial success rather than a conventional salary.

The selected partner will be eligible for an agreed share of revenue collected from qualifying engagements and activities they help originate, develop, or secure. Additional participation may be negotiated for substantive involvement in client delivery or ongoing business operations.

Specific terms will reflect the individual’s contributions and responsibilities and will be established through a written agreement.

There is no fixed salary or guaranteed compensation at this stage. The position does not convey ownership equity or authority to bind Bonvalet, and the Venture Partner title does not establish a legal partnership.

The initial arrangement is intended for an established professional interested in commercializing proven institutional capabilities while maintaining professional flexibility.

Successful commercial performance may create an opportunity to transition into broader operating leadership, subject to mutual agreement, business performance, and sufficient revenue to support expanded responsibilities.
